What happens if our clients want to visit the Machu Picchu Sanctuary, but the tickets are sold out?

This 2D/1N tour was created because admission to Machu Picchu was sold out. Our government authorized the sale of up to 1,000 tickets per day, which are sold in person in the town of Aguas Calientes. These tickets are valid for the day after purchase. Therefore, our clients must arrive in the town of Aguas Calientes the day before, very early in the morning, to complete the process. It’s not easy! But we will provide the appropriate support and assistance.

Why is it necessary to leave Cusco very early?

Please note that many tourists arrive in our country without having entrances to the Citadel of Machu Picchu, who also want to acquire the same entrances as you, generating a logical competition for said entrances and MINKA’S Travel knowing this situation needs to ensure the purchase the tickets to our clients and in order not to run risks or surprises we organize the very early departure from our City and thus take the first train becoming one of the first in the queue, registering to obtain the numbered ticket and then with said ticket buy the entrance to Machu Picchu for the next day, being the priority Circuit 2 and in case the entrance cannot be acquired with this Circuit, we will choose to buy Circuit 1 or Circuit 3, all this subject to the availability of spaces that will be at that moment.

Itinerary

Machu Picchu Last-minute reservation 2 days tour by Minkas Travel

From 2:50 to 3:00 AM, we will pick you up from your accommodation, and with our private transportation, we will take you to the Peru Rail train station, where you will board an Expeditions train at 5:05 AM. Continuing your journey to the town of Aguas Calientes, the train ride will offer you spectacular views of this wonderful Inca land, with impressive landscapes of mountains and valleys, Inca agricultural terraces on both sides of the valley, snow-capped mountains, and subtropical rainforest near La Ceja. The sacred Vilcanota River will accompany us from Pachar until we reach Aguas Calientes (2040 m), known as Machu Picchu Pueblo. Around 6:35 AM, when you get off the train, our staff will wait outside the train station, welcome you, and will immediately go to the government office to form a short line. There, you must present your passport and obtain a numbered ticket that will allow you to purchase your tickets for the following day. Based on your ticket number, you will be given a time slot for purchasing your tickets, starting at 3:00 p.m. at the same government office.

Afterward, you will head to your accommodation to check in and wait for your room to be checked in, which is generally around 11:00 a.m., before settling in and resting.

Please note that based on the time slot indicated for purchasing your tickets (starting at 3:00 p.m.), it is recommended that you have lunch before heading to the government office and purchasing your tickets for the following day.

Thus, starting at 3:00 p.m.. A new line will form, respecting the number printed on your ticket, to purchase your admission to Machu Picchu for the following day. With your permit in hand and fully confirmed, you’ll have the afternoon free to explore the small town, which has a small onsite museum. You can also relax in the hot springs at Aguas Calientes Pueblo (a 10-minute walk).

Finally, around 7:00 p.m., your guide will visit you at your accommodation to give you a briefing and discuss your plans for the following day.

In the morning, after breakfast and depending on your schedule printed in your income to Machu Picchu, our tour guide will pick you up from your accommodation to take you to the bus station and take the bus to Machu Picchu. The trip takes approximately 25 minutes. Upon arrival, you and your tour guide will enter Machu Picchu, “The Old Sacred Mountain.” The tour lasts more than two hours, visiting the main sites and areas such as the great Intiwatana, the Temple of the Sun, the urban area, and the agricultural area, among others. This citadel is where the last emperors, priests, and priestesses took refuge, and where the empire survived for 40 years after the arrival of the Spanish. This secret and mysterious citadel dates back to the time of Emperor Pachacutec Inca Yupanqui (9th Dynasty), the alleged builder. Its existence was known only to the authorities and priests of Tawantinsuyo, “The Four Lands of the Empire.” Machu Picchu, a marvel of aesthetically stunning architecture,
stands out for the majesty and harmony of its forms, for the impeccable organization of its terraces, stairways, buildings, courtyards, and passageways that form this condor nest, surrounded by mountains, between the sierra and the jungle, as the most extraordinary constructive feat of pre-Hispanic man.

At the end of the tour to Machu Picchu, the bus ticket to the town of Aguas Calientes is included, where you can find the best place to eat and then be ready to catch the return train.

The train we have chosen is the 6:20 p.m. departure time (please arrive at the train station 20 minutes early to avoid any delays while boarding). Which will be at the Ollantaytambo train station, after getting off the train, transportation provided by PERU RAIL from OLLANTAYTAMBO to the City of Cusco is included, where it will drop you off at the Peru Rail station and there our private transportation with our MINKA’S Travel logo will be waiting for you, to then take you to your Hotel in the City of Cusco.
